Investing in Greater New Haven, Powering Connecticut’s Economic Growth

Greater New Haven continues to experience sustained economic growth that benefits the entire state. Connecticut’s policies have the potential to create new high paying jobs, diversify our economy, and support growth across all our communities.  On behalf of our region’s business community, these are our priorities:

1. Invest in Tweed New Haven Airport to Build a New Terminal

Invest in Tweed New Haven Airport to Build a New Terminal

Tweed is a critical economic driver for Greater New Haven. Its expansion with a new terminal in East Haven will enhance connectivity and attract investment.  State support and investment are required to make this project a reality.

2. Continue to Invest in Talent Pipelines, Strengthening Our Workforce

Continue to Invest in Talent Pipelines, Strengthening Our Workforce

Connecticut’s workforce is our competitive advantage. The State of Connecticut has made workforce development a priority.  Maintaining and building a world-class workforce takes sustained focus. We must invest in education, training, and resources that empower employees and meet the needs of both for-profit and nonprofit employers.

3. Foster a Positive Business Environment

Foster a Positive Business Environment

Small businesses and entrepreneurs are the backbone of our economy. Legislative action must prioritize policies that help businesses thrive and avoid unnecessary burdens. Maintaining fiscal responsibility and transparency is vital to Connecticut’s long-term prospects.  The State should continue paying down long-term state debt, maintain fiscal discipline, and make any changes with full consideration of long-term economic competitiveness.  All legislation should be evaluated for its impact on businesses before being enacted.

A strong business climate also depends on stable, well-functioning communities. We encourage policy that supports practical measures which will strengthen local workforce participation and improve neighborhoods—such as expanding access to reliable childcare, human services, transportation, and housing options—so residents can work, businesses can operate successfully, and commercial areas remain vibrant. Ensuring community stability is a key component of maintaining a thriving environment where businesses can grow.

4. Address Energy Supply & Costs

Address Energy Supply & Costs

Advance policies that reduce energy costs for businesses through improved generation and regulatory frameworks.  Explore adding more generation resources in Connecticut. Seek a negotiated agreement that unlocks redevelopment at the English Station site.

5. Continue to Make Research & Development in New Haven a Priority

Continue to Make Research & Development in New Haven a Priority

Innovation fuels Greater New Haven’s economy.  Recent investments in quantum and bioscience will continue New Haven’s position as a top-tier region for research.  More investment will be needed.  Legislation and regulation should be crafted to safely support continued growth, not restrict it.
